YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

A little clarity for your journey.

Pregnancy and early parenting bring plenty of questions. Here are the practical things families often ask about Best Beginnings Midwifery (BBM) and Meet Ur Midwife (MUM).

CARE WITH BBM

Midwifery care and support

What is BBM?

BBM provides personalised midwifery consultations, education and practical support through pregnancy and the postnatal period. Our care is designed to complement your existing GP, obstetrician, hospital or maternity care team.

Do I have to change hospitals or maternity providers?

No. BBM supports your family alongside your existing maternity care arrangements. We encourage good communication with your usual healthcare team.

What can an endorsed midwife do?

Our endorsed midwife, Tammy, is a registered midwife with additional endorsement relating to scheduled medicines. She practises as an appropriately qualified clinician within her professional scope and may claim eligible Medicare midwifery items where the requirements are met.

What is Jo's role?

Jo is a registered midwife, early-parenting practitioner and Positive Parenting Coach. She supports education, preparation for birth and practical early-parenting learning within her scope of practice.

Can you help prepare my birth preferences?

Yes. We can explore your priorities and help you prepare a personalised written birth-preferences plan to discuss with your maternity team. Birth preferences guide conversations and decisions; they cannot guarantee a particular outcome.

Can you come to my home?

Home visits are available by arrangement, subject to clinical suitability and scheduling. We do not currently advertise a fixed home-visit area. Contact us to discuss availability.

Is telehealth available outside Melbourne?

Yes. Australia-wide telehealth may be available when a remote consultation is clinically appropriate. Some concerns require an in-person assessment, and Medicare eligibility depends on the relevant item requirements.

When can I book?

Usual visiting hours are Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm. Weekend appointments may be available by arrangement. Bookings are subject to availability.

Are BBM consultations bulk billed?

Eligible antenatal and postnatal clinical consultations with our endorsed midwife are bulk billed under Medicare, subject to item, provider and patient requirements. We will confirm the service and eligibility when booking. Not every class or education activity has a Medicare benefit.

Are there travel charges?

We do not add a separate travel surcharge to a bulk-billed consultation. Home-visit availability is discussed individually before an appointment is confirmed.

How do I book or enquire?

Book an eligible clinical consultation through Tammy’s Halaxy page. For private education, birth-preferences planning or questions about services, submit our enquiry form. You can also contact us by phone or email.

What if I need urgent advice?

BBM email, websites, classes, community posts and routine bookings are not monitored as urgent-care channels. Contact your usual maternity assessment service or an appropriate urgent-care provider without delay when concerned. In an emergency, call 000.

BEYOND THE APPOINTMENT

Questions about MUM — Meet Ur Midwife

What is MUM?

MUM is BBM’s separate family membership community for learning, connection and practical parenting resources. It includes educational classes, events, community participation, product and service information, demonstrations, and member opportunities.

Is MUM a clinical service?

No. MUM is an educational and community membership. Joining MUM does not book or pay for an individual clinical consultation, medical assessment, diagnosis or treatment. Those services are arranged separately through BBM.

How much is MUM?

The currently advertised MUM family membership is $150 AUD for 12 months, paid once, with no automatic renewal. Check the MUM checkout for the most current inclusions and membership terms before paying.

Can all family members access the membership?

MUM is offered as one family membership using one nominated account login. Separate individual logins are not currently included. Parents and carers are responsible for supervising access by children.

Are classes and events included?

MUM provides access to member learning, class information, resources, community opportunities and member benefits. Individual events, product purchases or third-party services may have separate booking conditions or costs, which should be identified before purchase.

Are recommended products and services personally prescribed?

No. General recommendations, demonstrations, reviews and product information are educational and are not a personal clinical assessment or endorsement that an item is suitable for you or your baby. Always read product safety information and seek individualised professional advice where needed.

Are paid recommendations or partnerships disclosed?

Where a featured recommendation involves payment, a commission, a gifted product, a referral benefit or another relevant commercial connection, we aim to disclose that relationship clearly when presenting the recommendation.

Is the MUM community a place to ask medical questions?

Community discussion is for connection and general peer support, not individual clinical diagnosis or urgent advice. Please do not post private medical records or identifying information about children in a community forum. Book a clinical consultation for personal healthcare questions.

YOUR HEALTH & SAFETY

A note about general information

Website information, classes, product information and community discussions provide general education and may not suit every family. Where information affects your health or your baby’s care, discuss it with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional who knows your circumstances. This does not mean that professional clinical advice or care provided directly by BBM’s endorsed midwife requires another provider’s approval.

BBM practitioners provide care within their individual professional scopes. Our role is to work collaboratively with you and your existing maternity team.

Urgent concern? Contact your maternity assessment service or appropriate urgent-care provider. In an emergency call 000. Do not wait for a website reply.
